Monthly Rides

Winter Rides
During December/January/February/March, those interested in a "Cabin Fever" ride should plant to meet at the Willow Metropark Washago Pond Shelter (area "J " on the map link) at 2pm on the second Saturday of those months. Washago Pond is located just north of the Willow Pool Shelter on the bike path and has heated restrooms. As with other Wolver-Bents rides, the "Cabin Fever" rides have no ride leader so those assembled should start out at 2pm. There are no December/January/February Wolver-Bents rides at Metro Beach Metropark.

Where
Wolver-Bent rides are currently held at two locations, both in the metro Detroit area.

First Saturday Of The Month Only - April Through November - Metro Beach Metropark (east Detroit area)
On the first Saturday of every month, April through November, rides are held at Metro Beach Metropark. Riders should meet by the flagpole near the park entrance at 9am. There is a $4 entrance fee to the park on weekends with a $20 annual pass available. For current and forecast Metro Beach weather click here.

Second and Fourth Saturdays - April 1st through November 30 - Willow Metropark Pool Shelter (southwest Detroit area)
On the second and fourth Saturday of the month, April through November, rides are held at Willow Metropark, just south of I-94 and Detroit Metro Airport. Take I-275 south to exit 11, South Huron Road (look for the Willow park signs), and go east to the park's north entrance. The ride meeting location in the park is the Washago Pond north parking lot (area "J" on the map link above), which offers restrooms.

Rides start at 9am and participants have two choices. They can join in on a (semi-casual "no racing") joint ride with the Downriver Cycling Club (http://www.lmb.org/dcc/), which has a ride starting at the same time and location. Or, recumbent riders can take off on their own for the "traditional" Wolver-Bents ride north to Lower Huron Metropark (on the park non-motorized paths) and return. Either way, there is a $4 entrance fee to the park on weekends with a $20 annual pass available. For current and forecast Willow weather, click here.

A Wolver-Bents Ride
On every ride, all types of riders are accommodated and non-recumbent riders are welcome. Rides are self-paced and you set what mileage you want to ride. There is no fee for the rides and no designated ride leaders (Wolver-Bents rides are more or less a riding location and start time). Those attending should collectively pick a route and start riding. There is no sag service or designated rest stops, so riders should be prepared to be self-sufficient in regard to minor mechanical problems such as flats. Also, please be aware that the Wolver-Bents is a relatively small cycling group. There may be times that you may be the only person showing up for a ride.

Mind Over Matter Ride
Every year the Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association sponsors the "Mind Over Matter" bicycle ride as a fundraiser to help fund their many programs. This years event will be on August 1st at Metro Beach Metropark, just north of Detroit on Lake St. Clair. The M.O.M. website is at www.mindovermatter2009.com which also provides registration and ride information. There are also no pledges involved with the ride and ride contributions are tax deductible. It would be great if Wolver-Bent recumbent riders could sign up to take part in this ride and and help support the Alzheimer's Association.
